Chicago: Retail therapy and eggsplosions
I went in to swap my car today, although I think I maybe should have kept the original. I now have a red Chevy Cavalier, which for some reason has eight vertical inches between the gas and the brake. This makes it very hard to switch between them quickly, which considering that much of the Chicago traffic I've seen is very stop-and-go is...bad. I have decided I like Japanese cars the best.
On the way back I stopped at Office Depot to pick up some blank CDs to burn music for the car. I was weak and indulged in some minor retail therapy: a small set of computer/iPod speakers ($9, they were on sale), a medium-sized sketchpad, some chalk pastels, and a blendy-kit thingie for the pastels. I am hoping that playing with these will make me feel a bit better; I haven't done any art-type stuff in ages (years) and there's something cheerful about new supplies. It's like the start of the school year; all promising, until you end up stuffed in your locker on the second day. But hey, new notebooks!
I also learned that my cooking skills do not, apparently, extend to boiled eggs. Perfect Eggs Benedict, yes. Sixteen-step, all-day ras malai, yes. (Practically) Perfect Pot Pies, yes.
Boiled eggs?
I suppose it's a fitting bookend to the relationship.

How in the world does one screw up hard boiled eggs?
Were you attempting the poached eggs trick I told you about the other day?

Raw talent.
No, I just forgot to add them *before* I boiled the water. Then when I did add them, they blew up.
